Celtic Solstice...................FINALE'...............

Salutations blog readers!

Great news!

Kevin the Quilter has finally completed the Celtic Solstice quilt top!

After reading Bonnie Hunter's inspirational post about finishes the other day, I was pumped to finish this top!

So, without further adieu...........

Celtic Solstice
Mystery Quilt by Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville.

I am very pleased with the way the top turned out, and like Bonnie's, mine is DEFINITELY NOT perfect!  However, I couldn't be happier with the color scheme I chose.  This quilt top will be donated to my friend Alycia of Alycia Quilts and her efforts with Colorado Quilts of Valor.

I am often asked how I am able to let go of a quilt such as this?  One that took several hours of devotion, and thought, and a gazillion pieces of fabric?  OK, maybe it wasn't a gazillion, just 2,344 pieces for the small version of the quilt excluding the non-pieced border fabrics.  But, I digress.......the answer to this question is simple.  I donate it because that is what the quilt was ordained to be; a donation quilt from it's very conception.  I can separate myself from it, because I know how much it will be appreciated by a United States Military Veteran.

The piecing is NOT perfect, but, then again, neither am I.

It kind of has a stained glass effect, doesn't it?

Thanks again Bonnie for sharing your time and talent and providing us with a wonderful mystery quilt!

You may have noticed on my side bar that I will be participating in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2014?  I have seen many of my blogging friends such as Andee of The Modern DiaryTeresa of A Quilt And A Prayer, and Amy of Amy's Passions participate in previous years, and I have loved what they have been able to make!  What a perfect challenge for me to be able to use my scraps in various colors to create something wonderful!  I am really looking forward to this challenge, and have started making Maverick Stars!  Of course I would choose something "Bonnie!"  I adjusted the size a bit and have already started playing with this month's color:

BLUE

I have a feeling I am going to love this one!

In the next few weeks, I am going to be asking a few questions of you all?  I am needing some major feedback concerning some ideas I have about a future presentation I will be making.  I would love to get my readers involved with this process!  Is everyone game?  I hope so!

Until next time,
Thanks for all of the encouragement!

  1. Wow, WOw, WOW!!!! Your Celtic Solstic is awesome! I love the colors that you choose. I'm still plugging away at mine in-between a few other projects. My quilting time seems to have shrunk a bit lately, but I'll get there. Can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve next, Kevin!

  2. Kevin, your Celtic Solstice came out beautifully! You are really going to love joining us in RSC and Bonnie's patters are just a perfect jumping off point! I just finished Wild Child prompted by RSC13 and I'm continuing to work on 4-Patch Revisited and Bowdacious! during RSC14. I'm also going to begin Angela's 6" blocks each month in Civil War fabrics I think! Fun...welcome!

  5. Hi Kevin. I came by your blog via Bonnie's CS link up party. I noticed you mentioned Dar had quilted one of your quilts for you and with just one degree of separation, we are linked! I have belonged to the same quilt guild as Dar in the past and have traveled to Paducah with her one year. I absolutely love your Celtic Solstice quilt, especially the addition of yellow to the traditional red/white/blue for QOV quilts. It's wonderful! Btw, I'm doing the RSC for the first time this year for the same reason as you.....I love the projects I've seen around the blogosphere :) Happy quilting.

  7. Your Celtic Solstice is fantastic!! Boy you sure made up for lost time. I'm still plugging away at making the blocks!! Too busy to even link up with Bonnie or Design Wall Monday yet today.! As I'm sure you saw on my side bar too, I am playing along with the Rainbow Scrappy Challenge this year too. I've started making the sampler blocks but will probably add another bigger block to the mix. I see you have met Cheri too. This is really a small world!

  8. I do LOVE the colors in yours and think the last outer border of yellow sets it off perfectly. A soldier and his family will love having it and knowing someone obviously put a lot of effort into it.

  21. Kevin, thanks for being human, and helping us to accept that as well. I hope to make more donation quilts as well, but sad that most of the ones I have been requested to make have always been for cancer patients. It is an honor to see you work, and get to know you via cyberspace!

  26. The colours and fabrics you have used for Celtic Solstice are so striking I really do like the stain glass effect you have created. I do understand your ability to give away a quilt you started that has been destined for another from the beginning of construction. No matter how much work is involved in the construction or how much you admire the finished product. Such a worthy cause and also very generous of you to support it.
Maverick star blocks look like fun to put together.

  40. Kevin, your QOV is beautiful. I make a lot of quilts for charity and get asked the same questions. My stock answer is that quilting is what I love doing, and it gives me great joy to give a quilt to someone knowing that the quilt will give them much pleasure. I also love the idea of completing something begun by someone else, so a cast off becomes something useful.

  41. Wow! Done? Already? It looks great and it will be a much appreciated QOV.
