A hurricane is a'comin'............

Did you watch the news????????

Did you hear the weather reports???????

Forecasts indicate that a hurricane is a'comin'!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let the record show I would NEVER wish a hurricane on anyone!

However, I recently was a part of a hurricane......

HURRICANE BEV-KEV

As most of you know, I am an avid supporter of Quilts of Valor.  I also do anything I can to help support my friend Alycia's efforts with Colorado Quilts of Valor.

In August, the Big Blowout Block Drive was initiated, and well, the time is nearing an end!

My friend Bev wanted to participate, and make as many blocks as possible for this drive, and invited me over for a couple days of sewing.

Here is what happened......

Sorry for the blurriness......the wind was really howling at this point!

Huge waves of scraps kept rolling in!

Bev bravely weathered the scraps!

Bev provided this wonderful spacious shelter, and fortunately, we brought our sewing machines along to weather the storm!

An iron is a very useful tool in combating gale force scraps!

A deluge of scrappy string blocks!

The calm after the storm!
Hurrican Bev-Kev.......was a huge success in my opinion!
Is this a pile of 50 or more string blocks?
75 or more?
100 or more?

Bev and I truly had a wonderful time piecing these string blocks for this block drive, and we met our goal.
How many did we get done?  Well, I am going to have to answer that question in my next post, because I think we may still have a few more string blocks left in us!  STAY TUNED!

Who else is going to Houston, Texas for the International Quilt Festival?

P.S.  Thanks to EVERYONE who commented on my "Soul Mates" flimsy!  I loved hearing from each and every one of you!  Thanks so much for the support!

As always,
Thanks for ALL of the encouragement!
Kevin the Quilter

  1. Hey- that's my sewing machine, too! Just curious- why the blue tape? Taping down the bobbin plate? And your project looks like a lot of fun. I'm sure they will be appreciated!

  4. Nice job!! (Same question as Angie, I use the Singer Confidence for my piecing work and traveling - wondering what the tape is for - does the bobbin plate cause underneath things to flip around sometimes?)

  7. That does look like a hurricane blew through there. Best kind of storm though. (The remnants of Karen just came through last week and I'm beginning to forget what sunshine looks like.) Great job on getting so many blocks made!
