Bonnie UFO Challenge...........

Many of you may know that Jo of  Jo's Country Junction is hosting a

This is to encourage many of us "Bonniacs" to complete one or more of our works in progress that uses one of Bonnie Hunter's patterns before her much awaited.......

I have to be honest......I wasn't sure if I would be able to participate or not before the start of this particular UFO challenge due to a ton of stuff going on here at my home.  And selecting one UFO to finish out of the 3 I have going on was hard.  But, I have risen to the challenge, and I believe I WILL be able to get my version of Blue Ridge Beauty completed before Nov 28th!

All laid out!
This is a massive quilt!  Sorry for my inept photo!
I had to use the floor as my design wall!

I am taking this in quadrants!
I like the "shortest seam" way to make a quilt, so this was my best option.

And here is the lower left corner of the quilt on my design wall.
This would make a cute baby quilt, wouldn't it?

This quilt is going to a very special cousin that gave me our grandmother's treadle machine!
You can read about that here !
She's a little nuts over the University of Kentucky!
This will be the backing and the binding.

4 Corners of Blue Ridge Beauty, in 4 days, and then pick out the borders!
I am UP for that challenge!
Thanks Jo for hosting this event!

Thanks for all of the encouragement!

  1. That sure is a beauty, Kevin! What a good idea to approach it in quadrants. Of all the quilts I've made, Bonnie's Chunky Churndash is the one on my bed most of the year, and her Smokey Mountain Stairs is the one we use most as a throw in the living room. Good luck finishing yours this month - you're well on your way!

  2. Kevin...your quilt is coming along beautifully! Attacking by quadrants is a really good option to meet a goal. I'm thinking of pulling out my Lozenges to finish, but, really just thinking:)

  3. Hello Kevin Dear...your BRB is Gorgeously Beautiful!! I just Love it..I'm seeing it in green...Hmmmm You are very clever to break it up like that..I've seen Bonnie break tops in half, but you're the 1st to show us quadrants..Thank you so very much you Clever Guy.........well, it's either going to my Bow ties I've started or Spoolin Around I've started or Lozenges I've started....I know I won't meet Jo's deadline so will use as my L/E during the mystery...I'm leaning towards my Cheddar Bow Ties! Have a very Blessed Thanksgiving with your Loved ones...Quilty Hugs, Debra in Ma.

  6. Gorgeous, Kevin!! This is one of my favorite Bonnie patterns. It'll undoubtedly find its way onto my WIP list some day. I really like breaking giant quilts into quadrants to assemble.

  8. I agree that your quilt is beautiful. Did you see any reduction of your scraps after getting all the blocks pieced. That looks like it would use bunches. I know you will meet Jo's challenge.

  12. Wow! That's beautiful! And huge! What a special thing for you to do for your cousin :) Of course, that was so nice of her to give your grandmother's sewing machine to you. I think both of you are ending up with a pretty sweet deal.
