My little helper......

I have felt kind of lost this past week....

Well, I mean since the big finale of the Easy Street mystery quilt, I haven't had clues to look forward to, or playing with different fabrics?  And it was such a needed get away from some current projects......you know we all need them!  I so appreciate the many friends I have made through my Easy Street endeavor, and I hope to keep this blog going at the very least weekly if not more.

Perhaps some of you recall this post?

Well, here is an update of that project.  I am chugging right along on it.
C'mon!  You all knew I was going to make my parents a double wedding ring for their 50th wedding anniversary?  RIGHT?????  I am using Eleanor Burns method, and so far so good.  Yes, there is some interfacing showing in some spots under the arcs, but, hey, I am only human, and I KNOW my parents will love it!  I am still needing to add the corners, and connect everything together.  Why the black background?  I LOVE contrast, and I cannot follow the "norm".......usually.  Plus, black is my mother's favorite color, and mine too!  I think it is going to be a cool finish for me, and I can't wait to complete it and get it quilted for their big day this year!

I am not only a fan of Bonnie Hunter, but, I also am a fan of Eleanor Burns.  Her patterns are very easy to follow, and plus, she is an absolute delight!  I was fortunate enough to be able to meet her at the International Quilt Show in Houston this past fall.  I watch her videos all of the time for inspiration, or if I just need to relax.

You can find many of Eleanor Burns' videos here:

But, I digress.....onto my current project and my little helper..........

This is my little helper, Sophia Annabella!  She is my 6 year old Boston Terrier, and she LOVES helping me with whatever I am doing (especially if I am in the kitchen.)  I am a Boston Terrier fanatic by the way.  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the breed, and I even have a room dedicated for all of  my Boston Terrier acquisitions.  (That post will be sometime in the future!)
Sophia posing for her close up!  (Hi Ginger!)

So here is my little update for the week in the blogosphere.  I am looking forward to a little get away next week, but, there will be more on that after it takes place!  Let's just say, I am SUPER excited about it!

Thanks for all of the encouragement!

  1. Sophia won my heart. I can't wait to see your Boston terrier shrine. My mom has a Boston Terrier that's 5. They thought she would get them out more to walk. They can't handle her. MY DH and I go over to walk her. She gets so excited to see us for her walks. She's such a bundle of energy and joy. I love to do the shimmie with her.

  5. I enjoyed the weekly check-in :) I also remember the moments the transpired after one of my first big big finishes. "Feeling lost" is exactly how it felt. Take a deep breath, relax... and enjoy what lies ahead.
The Double Wedding Ring quilt is going to be absolutely lovely. The golds are quite lovely and will contrast amazingly well against the black.

  7. I'm happy to hear you are going to keep blogging for us! Don't forget to plan something cool for the "Quilting" of Easy Street. Just because the top is done - doesn't mean it's over! I have been brainstorming myself to try to find the "Wow Factor" for my "Lantana Sunrise". :-) Tell us more about you! How did you get into quilting? Where do you live? Are you married? Kids? Significant other? Who is "Kevin The Quilter"? :-)

  8. Hey, I like black, too! In fact, I just started working on a kaleidoscope quilt and will be using black as my background. I love your little Sophia - in fact, I told my husband the other day that if we ever have another baby girl, I want to name her Sophia - he quite laughed at that (I am almost 53 yrs of age!) going on 25, mind you!

  13. Wow!!! Your wedding ring quilt is S.T.U.N.N.I.N.G. The gold on the black is fantastic. I have been quilting for 20 years and have never finished a DWR quilt. I started one once but I have no idea what happened to it.

  14. What a gorgeous quilt you are making , so caring for your parents they will love it. I am from Tasmania Australia , the little Island at the bottom. Love to quilt and look at other peopels work. Loving Easy Street. Though is a miss-noma, Not so easy for a person who likes big , so it gets done faster. I didnt add mine to the group. Too shy. and I was afraid I may not get to finish it , as life happens sometimes. Especially to me.

  15. I love that quilt! Eleanor Burns books came home from the library with me an awful lot when I "got back into quilting" after my kids were old enough to fend for themselves. Before that I'd only done mostly 4 patch and 9 patch quilts and they were few and far between. I credit Eleanor and her books for my renewed interest in making quilts!
