Moving right along......

I would like to thank all of you for your kind comments via my blog and Facebook concerning "Radar" 's acceptance into AQS Paducah.  I cannot begin to tell you how thrilled I am about seeing him there.  And yes, "Radar" is a "he."  He told me so!  I am going to have to share a blog post concerning how "Radar" came to be.  I hope you all will find it interesting!

Moving right along........

Linking up with:
My side of the river is pretty well thawed, how about your's Connie????

This baby quilt is finally completed!
As you all know by now, this is a free Bonnie Hunter / Quiltville design
It is called "Emery's Stars".
I gave Bonnie full credit as is needed when making any of her designs.
I called this one:

"Amelia's Stars"
"Emery's Stars" pattern and design by Bonnie Hunter.

Bonnie doesn't mind you renaming your quilt, but, PLEASE give her proper
credit if you make one of her designs when labeling your quilt.
It's the right thing to do!

My friend Ann of Attic Threads taught me a new free hand technique called "water."
It was a really cool feeling quilting it without any pantograph or using any rulers.
Not perfect, but, fun none the less!

One more shot for your entertainment.........and mine!

Last week I attended my niece's 17th birthday party, and fun was had by all!
Lil' Bubs thoroughly enjoys annoying his big sister.
I am glad I passed this trait on to him!

The next day I was able to do a little antiquing in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
This is an older signature quilt I found that I thought was a study in neutrals?

However, on closer inspection, this had to have been another color that faded over time.
I wish that "Louisa Harden" could tell me what color it was in it's glory days?
Any guesses as to what color it could have been by any of you?

I also found these two quilts. (above and below)
My story is, these are siblings quilts....my assumption, brother and sister?
I want to think that a loving grandmother, aunt or mother made these for
a brother and sister, or perhaps 2 sisters?
A very fun design none the less!

I was able to spend the gift certificate Santa left me in my stocking at
The Golden Needle in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
One of my favorite places on earth!  I was able to get a good visit in with my friends there too!
I got ALL of these stash enhancements and a book!
I think I am addicted to neutrals!!!!!!

And of course, my featherweight, Miss Bev has been getting a work out on
my layovers.  What a headache travelling has been for ANYONE these last few weeks!  The travelling project I have had for almost a year is coming
to a finish soon!

I love hearing from you all and I try to reply to each and every response I receive.
What are you quilting on?
Thanks for all of the encouragement!
Kevin the Quilter

  1. Kevin, lots of eye candy in this post. Looks like you had fun shopping in Cape. Also, you did a good job quilting "Amelia's Stars". I may send my quilt tops to you now.

  2. Probably green -- they were the most fugitive of colors before chemical dyes. Must have been all the same fabric to have faded so consistently. Pattern looks like Pickle Dish. I love the neutral look, too. Hoping to take a class with Pat Wys this summer.

  3. "Amelia's Stars" is a treasure. I spied "Spotlight on Neutrals at the library yesterday, contemplated, and then passed it up for two Kaffe books. Enjoy your new procurements and the fabulous weather.
BTW, the change in email didn't change things. Considering shutting down my blog. Let's see if this one works. :)

  4. Congratulations Kevin on Radar!!! How exciting!!!! And Ameilia's Stars is so pretty - great finish :) I will be taking a class from Pat Wys this summer and can't wait. She's such a FUN person!!! I've had that book for over a year now and fabrics pulled to make a yummy neutral quilt for one of my favorite guys - I'm so looking forward to it. I'm hoping most of the winter weather is on it's way out - I can smell a definite touch of spring in the air this morning!!!

  6. The baby quilt turned out beautifully and the quilting really adds a nice texture to it. Glad you got a break from all the travel madness. Hopefully the worst of the winter weather is just about done. At least for the southern US anyway.

  7. Your quilting looks great. It's very satisfying completing all steps in the finished product yourself. I hope to master free motion quilting one day. There are some great tips on designs and footage to view on how to quilt the designs at 'Life Under Quilts'. Not sure of you follow that one, well worth a look.

  8. Love what you found in the antique store but you neglected to say which, if any, came home with you!! Bravo to you for giving Bonnie credit! Does your featherweight travel with you?? Impressive...

  10. When you mentioned "Radar" is a male quilt, I immediately thought of the character from Mash. Congrats on getting him to the big show & Good Luck!! Looks like you picked out some great neutrals for a future project---can't have too many of those (Miss Bonnie says so). Hope to see your travel project soon.

  11. I have a polka dot quilt too but mine has black dots. It's very scrappy too. Wonder what year they were made? Just love all your quilts.

  13. I thought of you as I huddled in a warm house with my granddaughters down in Fort Worth. Every time I heard of an airport closing or flights cancelled, I wondered if you were stuck somewhere...another work day lost, without pay!! I hoped you got to spend most of the time at home where you could give some quality time to quilting. Love your quilting on Amelia's Stars - water was one of the first designs I learned to quilt when I got my longarm and it gives great texture to your quilt. I'm so glad spring is coming...nothing like heading south and getting snow and ice when home was bathed in sunshine!!!

  15. Congratulations on having Radar juried into the Paducah show. Wish I could be there to see him in person. I love those two brother/sister quilts. We could reproduce those and instead of putting a circle in the middle of those string blocks, we could put a big hexagon.
