Thanks for understanding.......

Hey Quilters..........

What a bizarre time we are living in!

I want to thank those of you who have been checking in on me, and being genuinely concerned about my well being.  I love ya'll!

In brief, I have been working.  The flights are empty, usually 20 passengers or less.
I wear a mask, and try to disinfect everything I will come into contact with on the plane, and
in my hotel room.  I have cut my flying back due to vacation I originally had planned at this time.
As many of you may know, I had trunk shows, lectures, and workshops scheduled throughout Tennessee and North Carolina that were forced to be cancelled.  We will look at rescheduling those if and when we return to a new normal?

I wanted to catch you all up very briefly......

I am sure we are all sewing more than usual during this quarantine?
I participated in Edyta Sitar's mystery from
I enjoyed her format of making a different
type of block each day.
She named the quilt, "California."
I worked from my personal scraps.
I still have to add borders to mine.
I am thinking smaller pink inner border,
and larger navy border?
What do you think?

My friend Pam has allowed me to help her organize her
resource center.
Pictured above is a 50 gallon trash can full of various scraps!

I have been organizing a little each day, and am
almost done now.
She is going to be shocked at the variety she has
in her scraps!
This is a lot of fun for me, helping someone realize
their potential through their scraps.

Spring has brought beauty amidst despair.
Abigail Rose turned 1 year old on February 4th!
Can you believe she is already 1 year old???
What a beautiful mess she is!

And, Lilly Mae turned 3 years old on April 16th.
Unbelievable!  She has turned into such a little
love bug despite her rocky start of being a tried
and true booger!

Using up those frozen berries from summer in pies.
This is a blueberry pie......ummm......
no, I haven't stepped on a scale!

Sadly, we lost my mom's last sister, our beloved
Aunt Flossie Sue in late February.
Her death was not Covid19 related.
Many family members were able to come for the
funeral before the quarantine began.
Regrettably, my aunt's passing threw my mother into
a depression that affected her mind.
My family was able to get Mom the help she needed,
and I am happy to report, Mom is doing much better now.
My sister and I are doing the very best we can in taking care
of our parents during this time.  I have to say how much
I appreciate my sister.  She has been awesome.
Also, I! MISS! MY! FAMILY!
You all know how close we are, and this
quarantine is making it hard.
We are obeying social distancing, and using
video calling as much as possible.

On another note.......I pray all of you are staying safe.
If you or anyone you know has suffered a loss at this point in time,
regardless of the virus, I extend my most heartfelt condolences, and
pray for you during this time of loss.
I cannot imagine going through a loss, and not being
able to hold a funeral the way you would like to.
I am sure that adds additional pain, and I am just
so sorry.

I am happy I have been able to help many of my
quilting friends in Scrap Club hosted by Kevin the Quilter
by providing eggs.  My ladies are laying up a storm
as they usually do during the Spring.

I wanted to be able to share something POSITIVE
during this time with my quilters in Scrap Club,
and I would like to extend this to all of you here as well.
I have already shared a previous video with them that was
not recorded, but, it is not too late for you all
to share in the fun.
I have a broody hen that is wanting to hatch out
some eggs, so I gave her some eggs I selected
for egg color and breed for her to sit upon.
So far, so good........but, you never know....
she may change her mind and not sit til
the end.......
Enjoy this first check in with Mother Mabelle below.

Again, I want to thank all of those who have checked in on me.
I promise to get back to blogging more regularly.
Thanks for all of the encouragement!
Stay well, and stay safe!
Keep on Quilting!
Kevin the Quilter

  1. Glad you are safe. I know about missing family (ours are all states away). We've missed going to 2 different family weddings. It's just not the same watching them on Zoom or YouTube. Stay safe, and keep using that spray and the mask.

  2. Kevin, so good to hear from you. I am glad you are doing fabric therapy. So glad your mom is doing better. Family is even more important at these times. Easter was not the same without church in person and family for dinner. You will get your workshops and trunk shows rescheduled. People will be so hungry for them. Sewing and quilting is my steady companion and I actually have things to show for it. Glad your animal kingdom is not missing a beat.

  3. OH KEVIN, I am so very sorry about your mom's sister's passing. I can imagine how awful that must be for her. How wonderful that you and your sister were there to help boost her up!

And you're still flying? I guess that's good, right? Paychecks are a good thing. And if the flights are EMPTY. Who is flying there days, I say??? I can't imagine.

Nice job on organizing the scraps. When you run out, head over my way.

Love the doggies!! Happy birthdays to them both!!
    Stay well!

  4. Hey Kevin, so good to hear from you. I'm so sorry about your aunt's passing, and for what your mama is going through. I'm glad you have your sister, and that the two of you can work together to take care of your parents. It's tough to see our parents go through those things! I've wondered what flights are like during the quarantine; can't imagine only 20 or so on a flight! Do take care. I'm glad you have some vacation now. Keep sewing those beautiful quilts, and take care of all those chicks and furbabies!

  5. Stay safe. Glad you are doing fine. Fun to see the mother hen sitting on eggs. When I was growing up I lived on a farm and we raised chickens. Loved the baby chicks

  6. Sorry to hear of your family's loss, especially since it's been so hard on your sweet Mama!
I've been thinking about you and wondering about you. I appreciate not having to wait and wonder (for at least another month or so.) :P
Today, I was missing all the fun we would have had in your Goodnight, Darlene class!! :o((
I am SEW hoping that you will be able to reschedule with my Guild. Once we find a new normal. Sigh... Are we there yet? I'm tired of waiting.

  7. So wonderful to hear from you. So sorry for your family's loss and this is a very hard time for any one to grieve. Happy you were all able to be supportive for your Mom.

  8. Glad you're ok and your mother is doing better, being the last sibling has to be hard. Check out my April 14 post, we put the cows out to pasture. You'll enjoy the farm. Happy stitching!

  11. There is so much to worry about these days, not just the possibility of catching this awful virus, but the economic fallout and the mental health issues. And it would be so helpful if politics could be left out. Thankful that you are okay and hoping your Mama continues to recover. It's hard when families cannot be physically together in support. Stay well.

  12. So sorry for your family's loss; I hope your mom is doing better now. I'm sure that's a worry for you since you can't be there for her in person. I love the big bin of scraps - just what you need to play with while staying home. Have fun with it! Glad your menagerie is doing well. Hang in there, someday we'll get back to something approaching normal-ish. Meanwhile, keep sewing!

  13. Good to find your post - love your version of the quilt along project and your border ideas. Condolences to your extended family and well wishes for your Mama (grief is such hard work even under the best of circumstances). That bin of scraps is AMAZING -- what a project but what enormous possibilities.

  14. I am so sorry for your loss. It is frightening when you can't be near the ones you love when they need your help. I thank God for my sister too as she is taking care of my Mom who would otherwise be in assisted living and in jeopardy in these trying times. I am glad to see you still have your sense of humor! I think we have all been doing scrap therapy. I'll bet your friend is very thankful for all your help! Take care and stay safe.

  15. Oh, Kevin, I am glad to hear from you and see that you're well. (Or well enough, as we all are.) That huge bin of scraps would make my head explode, so I applaud you for going through it all. I miss my family, too, but keeping them safe is more important right now. I hope your mom is getting better, though losing a sibling would hit anyone hard. Stay safe!

  16. Thank you so much for the post. It is good to hear you are doing well. I'm so sorry for the loss of your aunt and your mom's trouble with grief. My prayers continue for you and your family. It's wonderful your chickens are doing well. I hope Mother Mabelle gets some babies soon :-)

  17. Lovely to see your face - you have such a beautiful smile :) I'm usually home most days so not a lot of difference in my daily routine and I have my sewing and garden to keep me busy. Looks like you're not keeping still either, always having something to do, some place to go! Sending you all lots of hugs from across the pond - as always, take care, stay safe, keep quilting :)

  18. Thanks for updating us but I am so sorry about the loss of your aunt and your poor mother's struggle with her grief! Losing people you love is never easy but I think that with the world turned upside down, everything seems more difficult. Those of us with strong faith to rely on are fortunate. As to the "California" project, I think narrow pink and then navy would be a perfect finish for the quilt. Can't wait to see the finished project. And Mother Mabelle's chicks too!

  19. Glad to see and hear from you today! Your Edyta mystery is great. I also made it with my own stash, sewing into rows right now. I have to wait for the center to get together before I will let it speak to me about borders, lol! Bonnie's "Unity" is, predictably, time consuming. But I love the Part 3 little stars, so stinkin' cute! Stay safe, Kevin.

  21. Kevin, my heart breaks for your Auntie Flossie Sue, your momma's sister. how tragic. I know and understand your mom's absolute hysteria. I would be the same. This is the worst. I will pray for your mom. she knows that Flossie Sue is in Heaven and very safe now, she knows that. When my big sister died she was 48 and I screamed and cried for a week.
Kevin, please stay safe. This virus is not under control. It may be a long time (I am an olden nurse) I am taking care of my daddy but I can only visit him a few days a week, mainly because I do not want him to expect me to come more now. I would, but it is safer if I come less
Your blog always makes me so happy to read Please stay safe and healthy and be super careful.

  22. I'm so sorry your mom lost her sister. I'm glad it was before the current insanity and you could have a funeral together. My dad died 3/18, and I'm still here in his house but none of my kids or husband could come to me. Hoping that we can have a memorial service some time this summer, but only if my kids can come...spread across the country, that is difficult. Glad you are doing well and that they will finally let you wear a mask when you are working. I have a feeling that we will be wearing masks for quite a while...rather like Asia. Your mama hen looks happy in her isolation and I hope you get some lovely new hens out of the eggs (and no roosters!!).

  24. So sorry to hear about the passing of your beloved aunt! Glad your mom is doing better! It must be really hard on her losing her sister and this quarantine! Glad you are healthy and have some time for your fur babies and chickens! Keep up the videos!

  25. Oh, gosh, I'm so sorry your mother went through that complication. How horrible, on top of the burden of grief already there. I'm very glad the help has worked. Kevin, your mystery is quilt is one of the prettiest I've seen - love, love, love your colors. And that hen - >>hilarious<< "I am going to babysit you...and you...and you......Give me them all!" Scott was cracking up, too, overhearing your video while I was watching. :)

  26. What a great post, Kevin!! I am sorry for your family loss and especially sad for your Mom!! I am happy that she is doing better!! This is a hard enough time with all isolated souls but then to lose your last sister . . . That Lily Mae, what a hoot!! Your quilt is gorgeous!! but your video is the best!! You look healthy and happy and hopefully safe!! Keep us posted on the chickie babies!!

  27. I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your aunt and your mom's subsequent depression. I'm glad she sought out help to get some relief. I will keep all of you in my prayers. Your California quilt is gorgeous. Your border ideas sound spot-on. I saved the clues for the Mystery quilt but haven't started yet. I'm so impressed with how you utilize your time!! Take care!!
