Easter Blessings

Easter Blessings to one and all!

How is everyone doing out there?

I know some parts of the U.S. can't figure out if it is Spring or not?  Missouri being one of those parts!  I hope that the weather doesn't dampen your spirits this Easter season.

The churn dash blocks from
found their way to me!
What a magnificent variety of fabrics and colors!

There is a plan in place!
This plan is NOT typical of the work I usually do.....
trying to practice what I preach......
step AWAY from the comfort zone!

Can you believe I am down to the last 13 quilts from
the epic QOV Block Drive
I hosted 4 years ago?!?!?!
189 quilts for U.S. Military Veterans
thanks to you all out there!
All of these quilts have been presented on behalf of
Quilts of Valor, Eastern Missouri.

These quilts above have been beautifully
quilted by my quilting friend Portia.
She has done an amazing job!
These quilts look like triplets ready to be bound
and labeled.
Thank you SOOOOOOOO much Portia!

Look at all these yummy scraps from my friend Frances!
Some Easter colors in there if I do say so myself?

These turned into..........

2" squares for my Leaders and Enders.
Thanks Frances!

I was able to meet this great lady at a recent quilt show
held in the Metro St. Louis area.
Norma ( I hope that name is correct?!?!) reads the ole' blog, and made sure to
come say hello to me!  She has the nicest daughter and son in law
who made sure she was able to come visit them and the show in St. Louis.

Ann of Attic Threads and Quilts and I were invited to show our collaboration,
 "Radar," at this quilt show.
We talked about how he was constructed and quilted.
An improv meet the artists if you will?
We had so much fun talking with so many quilters!

Look at all those free pallets!
Hmmm......I wonder what these were turned into?
I thought you all may like to see some of the Cedar trees
around the Quilt Cave too?
I love all of the trees around this place.

Some of those free pallets were turned into this awesome
brooder that will help house chicks until it is time to move
them outdoors.  This was built in my detached garage/barn.
And, no, I am NOT a carpenter! LOL

The latest batch of chicks are loving their new digs!
There is a great variety of chicks in this hatching.

I was recently asked by my long time friends Mike and Sherry
if I would like to see their daughter perform in her Winter Guard
troop.  I was in marching band in high school.....that was a long time ago!
It is interesting to see how things have progressed with the flag/drill team
since I was in school........there was no Winter Guard then!
Their daughter's team was amazing and won 1st place in their division.

Whatever you have planned for your Easter weekend....make sure to include some sewing!
Thanks for all of the encouragement!
Thank you Jesus!
Keep on Quilting!
Kevin the Quilter

  1. My best friend was in the Flags in marching band. Maybe they are called winter guard now. I was a choir gal, but knew lots of band people. Happy Easter!

  2. It's good to hear from you (oh, quiet one.) Hoppy Easter to you, too!! I'm sure you will have a lovely day with family and/or friends.

  3. Happy Easter, Kevin! Love the new house for the chicks...if you aren't a carpenter, who made it? Wow, only 13 quilts left...time for another block drive then? Like you don't have enough to do *grin* Have a great weekend with your family, human, furred and feathered!

  4. My daughter was married at wedding venues NYC and all our guests said that this is the most amazing wedding they've ever been too. I love the dark wood, the beamed ceilings, and the overall sort of great vibe of the building.

  5. Happy Hoppy Easter to you Kevin. It is hard to believe QOV block drive was 4 years ago. The quilts are stunning. Love your adventures and smiles. The chicks are growing. Blessings Dear...<3

  6. You have me curious about your Churn Dash plan.
I only step out of my comfort zone when absolutely required. It took me a long time to find it and I hate to leave it behind. It is so...comforting. LOL
I had not found your blog when you were doing your block drive or I would have tiptoed out of my zone (so it wouldn't notice I was AWOL) and hurried to stitch up a few blocks. :)
Isn't it amazing the variety of things one can do with a few pallets--even non-carpenter types? I'm sure those chicks are cheeping up a storm with their joy in the new digs!

  7. What marvelous Quilts of Valor!! Great job, Kevin!

  8. But...what are you going to do with your swap blocks ? I can't wait to see the top finished and I'm pretty sure it will be stunning as usual !
Congratulations for your QOV quilts !
Happy Easter dear Kevin !...with lots of chocolates :)

  9. I enjoy reading your blog. Have a Happy and Blessed Easter!

  10. The churn dash blocks will make an awesome quilt!
Did you assemble the quilts for the QAV block drive? The quilts are stunning!! Nice work!
Best use of pallets I've seen was building a home in Colombia! The chicken brooder is good too:)

  11. Happy Easter Kevin. You are a doll
Thank you for sharing your adventures. I love it!!

  12. Kevin, thank you for sharing your adventures with us. I,too, hadn't found your blog when you had your last block drive. I would gladly make some blocks for you. Keep smiling and enjoy this blessed season with your sweet family.

  15. I'm thinking a lot of the country doesn't know whether it's spring or not! Those QOV quilts are SO cool. Happy Easter to you!

  16. I decided that Mother Nature decided to play along with April Fools day when choosing the weather for Easter. We were in Springfield, MO. It sleeted! Lots of fun stitching and non-stitching stuff going on at your place. Happy stitching!

  17. Those QOV Block Drive quilts are just my style! So modern and colorful. Gorgeous.
