"Goodnight Darlene!"
This was made in honor of my good friend Darlene
who blogs at Dar's Patchwork Garden.
It is also a new workshop I will be offering.
You all know how much I love strings, and this one
uses a BUNCH of them!

It's my birthday month!
Before you all start asking......
I am 39 and holding thank you very much....
LOLOLOL
I was able to spend my birthday with my family!
My dad has zero sense of humor as you can see!
And who can beat your favorite meal prepared by your
own Momma?
Stuffed peppers and fried potatoes!
It was a great day spent with family......
then....
Back to flying.......
some of my flights had very light loads which
gave me some time to open and spin four patch
blocks I use as my leader and ender project.
Like these used in my version of
Bonnie Hunter's "Narragansett Blues".......ala browns for me.
Dar just quilted this one for me and I am
ready to bind it now.
Flying can really be beautiful sometimes......
except when you get contacted by your sister that
your mother fell ill and was being taken to the hospital......
Mom had passed out and hit her head with no reason why......
ct scans found bleeding on the brain.
Small town life fact:
My mother's doctor went to high school with me,
and we were really good friends.......and still are!
I can't thank her enough for calling me personally and filling
me in on mom's condition.
It felt like I was literally a million miles away from home
and no good way to get back......
Sis kept me posted on my mother's condition.
Don't let this pic fool you.......Mom's condition was serious
even though her hair is fixed and fingernails painted.
My mother has ALWAYS taken pride in her appearance.
Fortunately, my father and sister were by her side in
my absence.
During this time, my friends, Bonnie and Lori
checked in on me....just when I needed it most.
I want to thank them, and ALL of you who
expressed concern for my mother, and me this past week.
I was literally overwhelmed by the support
and concern everyone showed to me and my family.
I finally got home, and was able to be there for Mom's
release from the hospital. All of her tests came back OK
and she was given an all clear to leave the hospital.
Blood pressure medication proved to be the culprit.

Thank God!
(Please note.....my mother hopes there are no fashionistas out there
that notices she is wearing a black sweater with navy pants.....
it was the sweater Dad brought for her to wear.)
LOLOL That pretty little Momma of mine!
During all of this, I got no sleep, no rest.....
I was flying, and my resistance was down...
therefore, it was head cold city for me!
My mom knew I had Scrap Club's Final Reveal
scheduled, and she insisted I get back so those
quilters wouldn't get mad at me! LOLOL
Well, hesitantly, I went.....
I just love all of the quilters in
Scrap Club hosted by Kevin the Quilter!
They were so kind, and concerned about everything
that had taken place with my mother.
We had a wonderful reveal!
The participation level was beyond compare for this session.
66 Lone Star quilts were shown in our
Lonestar Legacies chapter of Scrap Club.
Photos will be coming soon of all of the talented
quilters' works!
I can't wait to share them with you all!
My friend, Chris, found this antique Lone Star Quilt
at an antique mall in Nebraska.
She surprised me with it at the Final Reveal!
There is a texture antique quilts have that is like nothing else!
I just love them, don't you?
And I love all of my friends out there
in the quilting world and blog land!

Kevin, so glad they found your Mom's culprit and that it can be corrected. Wonderful reveal- so much great quiltiness. I have found that quilters are the best! Many of them rallied around me last February when I had the heart attack. Make sure you take care of yourself and take your vitamins! Good to hear you are ok.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine how difficult that must have been to be in the air and not able to be with your mom, Kevin. Glad she is doing so much better and that the reason for her fall was found. Sounds like you have a great family and a great doctor to care for her. Those lone star quilts are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad they were able to figure out the cause of your mom's problems and that the fix is easy!! Prayers definitely answered!!! Those lone star quilts are amazing and I agree with you that the antique quilts have a texture not found in modern quilts - something to do with the batting as well as the fabrics they used. I have several quilts made by my great grandmother and I cherish them!! Get better soon - colds just suck the fun out of life!!

Loved catching up with all your news, wonderful that your Mum is doing well and by the sounds of it she was in good hands all round. Your Goodnight Darlene quilt had me at strings, will you be doing a sew along or such, just its a tad far to come for a workshop :)

ReplyDeleteWhew! What a roller coaster of emotions for you, Kevin! I'm SOOOOOOOOO glad that your Mom is doing better now. I'm flying across the country tomorrow to help my Dad who is also have mysterious medical complications. We worry so much about our dear families, don't we?

ReplyDeleteHow big is the top for Goodnight Darlene? I like the looks of it a lot - thinking of a kitchen table topper is multiple colors (although I DO love purples). We share the birthday month - and we've already talked about how great it is that your mom is home and improving. Take care of that head cold!!

Sure hope I can join in on one of your sewing meetings some day. Ever consider printing your patterns and selling them? The Sapphire Stars is wonderful. Happy Birthday month, my friend. Celebrate all month long. At the advanced age of 39 and holding, it can get difficult to remember whether or not you celebrated already, so just go for it all month!
Your sweet Mom sounds a lot like mine--always wanting to look her best, regardless of the circumstances.

I am glad your mother is doing well now. How scary for your family and you having to fly during her hospital stay! That would have been horrible! It’s wonderful that she still keeps up her appearance! Too many people just let themselves go! Love your “ Goodnight Darlene” quilt!
